Flat Rock boys win 4th straight county track title
The Flat Rock boys track and field team won their fourth straight county championship recently. Track coach Steve Hancock recalls the win saying that the team “won this championship through teamwork.” According to Hancock, Flat Rock won only one first place ranking out of thirteen events. In order to win the championship, the team needed to work together to score as high in the other events as possible.
“That’s what this FRMS team is all about,” said Hancock. “A group of unselfish athletes who worked together, overcame adversity and gave the opposing teams the one-two punch needed to win.”
Key to this year’s title was Zack Jackson (100 and 200 meters, triple jump), Elijah Gilmore (long and triple jump), Chandler Tuitt (shot put and disc), Connor Dial (1600 and 3200 meters), Antonio Trapp (hurdling), Jarod Stanley (400 and 200 meters), Kriston Kincaid (400 meters and high jump), Collins Livinus (high jump and 800 meters).
On their way to earning the title, the 4x400 team of Kincaid, Lewis, Stanley and Livinus set a new county record of 3:48.02 to bring home the gold medal and bragging rights as County Champions.
