Landmark wins sixth cross country title, McIntosh's Hort AAAA boys champ
The Landmark Christian School girls won the Class A cross country championship at Carrollton last Saturday. It was their sixth cross country title in school history and their first since 2007.
The top five runners for the Lady War Eagles were Lindy Long, 4, 19:36.25; Courtney Gilliam, 14, 20:26.47; Kaylin Deel, 15, 20:44.52; Olivia Bouchard, 22, 21:09.27 and Rebecca Moody, 31, 21:26.14.
McIntosh’s Brad Hort, a junior, was the individual champion in the Boys Class AAAA division. He finished with a time of 16:05.66, nearly six full seconds ahead of Marist’s Michael Thurston. McIntosh Cross Country Coach, Chuck Buckle was pleased but not surprised by Brad’s victory. “He is a phenomenal athlete and could be the best runner to walk through the halls of McIntosh High School.” Brad is the first-ever McIntosh athlete to win an Individual State Cross Country Championship Title. Buckle added, “I’m looking forward to the 2012 track season to see what Brad will do in the mile and two mile.”
The Chiefs had the second highest finish of any local team at the state meet, placing fourth in AAAA. Their top five were Hort, 1, 16:05.66; Taylor Huntley, 14, 16:50.59; Artie McCarty, 54, 17:36.84; Isaac Zaubi, 63, 17:46.21 and Andrew Jaeger, 76, 17:54.93.
Whitewater’s girls placed sixth in AAAA. Their top five were Mackenzie Nail, 15, 20:11.04; Emma Brodzik, 43, 20:58.90; Claire Bohrer, 51, 21:06.14; Kyah Eglitis, 65, 21:26.72 and Channing Thomas, 76, 21:38.14
Sandy Creek’s boys placed eighth in Class AAA. Their top five were: Jamie Bigby, 38, 17:37.72; Rex Willis, 49, 17:51.75; Dominick Chontos, 59, 18:03.31; Robert Agenjo, 65, 18:17.30 and Ryan Hamill, 73, 18:25.39.
Starr’s Mill’s boys took ninth in AAAA. Their top five runners were: Ryan Philllips, 35, 17:17.74; Brad Robinson, 46, 17:30.92; Josh Warren, 49, 17:34.41; James Adams, 85, 17:59.87 and Daniel Sims, 133, 18:41.38.
Our Lady of Mercy’s girls placed 10th in Class A. Their top five were: Colleen Kelly, 53, 22:08.40; Jade Grier, 66, 22:51.77; Emma Dunphy, 67, 22:59.00; Victoria Shurman, 75, 23:08.04 and Meghan Lowther, 78, 23:15.62.
Mercy’s boys placed 12th in Class A. Their top five runners were: John Raville, 18m 17:17.83; Steven Johnston, 57, 18:25.43; Nile Freeman, 73, 18:51.68 and Zayd Johnson, 84, 19:05.77.
McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs placed 12th in Class AAAA. Their top five were: Melanie Hamilt, 23, 20:28.29; Rachael Tierney, 38, 20:53.27; Haley Smith, 77, 21:39.37; Nicole Kawahata, 88, 21:51.78 and Tarna Zander-Velloso, 99, 22:12.90.
Landmark’s boys placed 15th in Class A. Their top five runners were: Paul Orr, 40, 18:08.29; Spencer Geerlings, 56, 18:25.08; Joe Humphries, 69, 18:48.24; Brandon Regan, 102, 19:31.53 and Cole Franklin, 122, 19:51.28.
Starr’s Mill’s girls finished 21st in Class AAAA. Their top five runners were: Jazmin Zambrana, 89, 21:52.17; Lauren Phillips, 93, 21:55.80; Faith Thompson, 134, 23:10.74; Isabella Capati, 151, 23:44.32 and Brittany Williams, 152, 23:46.34.
Sandy Creek’s girls placed 23rd in Class AAA. Their top five were: Hannah Hancock, 57, 21:50.72; Amber Ugbo, 125, 23:48.57; Brittany Hobbs, 143, 24:40.87, Meaghan McClain, 149, 24:51.81 and Sydney Baker, 188, 27:32.26.
