Whitewater girls and McIntosh boys win region cross country titles
Fresh off winning county titles, the Whitewater girls and McIntosh boys cross country teams won titles at the region 3-AAAA championships.
Whitewater’s girls won the region 3-AAAA championship last Thursday. Their top five runners all placed within the top 12.
They were: Mackenzie Nail, 4, 20:22.17; Emma Brodzik, 8, 21:17.75; Claire Bohrer, 10, 21:34.19; Alana Hood, 11, 21:35.69 and Kyah Eglitis, 12, 21:37.06.Also pictured are Hannah Gullickson and Channing Thomas.
McIntosh took third and was followed by Starr’s Mill in fourth and Fayette County in eighth place.
The top five for McIntosh were: Melanie Hamilt, 1, 19:20.99; Rachael Tierney, 9, 21:24.58; Haley Smith, 14, 21:49.81; Tarna Zander-Velloso, 16, 22:05.05 and Danielle Gray, 17, 22:10.07.
Starr’s Mill’s top five were: Lauren Phillips, 13, 21:42.37; Kendall Taylor, 24, 22:33.80; Jazmin Zambrana, 28, 23:07.23; Faith Thomspon, 32, 24:09.80 and Brittany Williams, 33, 24;13.31.
Fayette’s top five were: Nisa Floyd, 35, 24:51.24; Shania Hall, 36, 24:54.64; Victoria Ward, 45, 25:35.74; Sarika Reddy, 52, 26;09.69 and Brook Heard, 54, 26:31.86.
On the boys side, McIntosh won the region title. Their top five were all in the top 13. They were: Brad Hort, 1, 16:02.23; Taylor Huntley, 4, 17:07.02; Andrew Jaeger, 5, 17:09.13; Garrick Larson, 12, 17:33.18 and Artie McCarty, 13, 17:39.02.
Starr’s Mill placed third, while Whitewater took seventh and Fayette County (38, 66, 67, 67, 77) placed 11th.
Starr’s Mill’s top five were: Ryan Phillips, 6, 17:15.99; Joshua Warren, 7, 17:18.30; Brad Robinson, 8, 17:21.90; James Adams, 19, 18:05.72 and Daniel Sims, 21, 18:13.70.
Whitewater’s top five were: Brandt Taylor, 33, 19:03.22; Michael Melatti, 35, 19:13.94; Matthew Morrisey, 43, 19:54.41; Seamus Murrock, 44, 19:57.61 and Grant Stevens, 45, 19:59.23.
Fayette’s top five were: Max Anderson, 38, 19:30.18; Chris Jones, 67, 21:05.67; Lee Webb, 68, 21:08.35; Brandon Dandridge, 69, 21:10.16 and Brantly Dorrity, 80, 22:49.69.
In 4-AAA, Sandy Creek’s boys won the region title. Their top five were: Jamie Bigby, 3, 17:53; Dominick Chontos, 4, 17:57; Robert Agenjo, 5, 18:02; Rex Willis, 6, 18:16 and Devin Hamill, 9, 18:41.
Sandy Creek’s girls placed fourth. Their top five were: Hannah Hancock, 3, 21:23; Amber Ugbo, 10, 23:11; Brittany Hobbs, 20, 24:49; Meaghan McClain, 24, 25:18 and Sydney Baker, 30, 26:31.
In the region 9-A championships held at Our Lady of Mercy, the Our Lady of Mercy boys placed third followed by Landmark Christian in fourth, while Landmark’s girls took second and Mercy’s girls placed third.
The top five for Landmark’s girls were: Lindy Long, 3, 19:58.07; Courtney Gilliam, 4, 20:33.76; Kaylin Deel, 5, 20:58.49; Rebecca Moody, 13, 22:13.94 and Olivia Bouchard, 14, 22:18.02.
The top five for Mercy’s girls were: Colleen Kelly, 12, 22:05.33; Emma Dunphy, 17, 23:16.27; Tori Shurman, 18, 23:17.93; Jamie Morgan, 22, 24:01.09 and Rachel Jonks, 24, 24:06.37.
The top five for Mercy’s boys were: John Raville, 5, 17:34.03; Steven Johnston, 14, 18:42.57; Nile Freeman, 15, 18:53.70; Zayd Johnson, 18, 19:06.10 and Maddox Caporini, 19, 19:07.48.
The top five for Landmark’s boys were: Paul Orr, 10, 18:08.42; Spencer Geerlings, 11, 18:30.27; Joe Humphries, 13, 18:38.93; Cole Franklin, 30, 20:05.51 and Austin Hoover, 33, 20:22.60.
