Whitewater is AAAA runner-up in volleyball

Whitewater’s volleyball team (42-15) came up just a little short in their bid for a title in the Class AAAA championships.

The Lady Wildcats took on Pope and lost 3-1. The Lady Greyhounds won game one 25-21, while Whitewater bounced back with a 26-24 win in game two. Pope won the next two games, 25-20 and 25-13, to earn their third state title. Whitewater, state champs in Class AAAA in 2009, finished the season ranked second.

Since the playoffs began with the area tournament, Whitewater went 9-2, winning the region 3-AAAA title over McIntosh 3-2 in the final and beating Heritage Conyers, Houston County and Lakeside, Dekalb, all 3-0, before outlasting Chattahoochee in an epic semifinal match (25-16, 25-23, 14-25, 19-25, 15-13).

The Lady Wildcats graduate three players from this year’s roster and should be primed for another successful run next year. Five of their losses this season came against out of state teams and five others came to state champions; twice to Sandy Creek (AAA) and Pope and once to Walton (AAAAA).
