The 2008 All Citizen Volleyball Team

volleyball.jpgAfter what may have been the toughest deliberations in the history of the All Citizen teams, here is this year's edition of the All Ctizen volleyball team.

Libero - Mallie Haumann - Sandy Creek - In 142 games, she recorded 547 digs, 14 aces, 22 kills and 25 assists.

Outside hitter - Katie Briggs - McIntosh - Briggs, a member of the 2007 and 2008 All Area team, was a captain for the Lady Chiefs. She recorded 458 kills, 237 digs and 44.5 blocks this season. She has committed to play at West Point.

Outside hitter - Charmaine Kehoe - Whitewater - A three year varsity starter and co-captain this season, Kehoe had 272 kills, 348 digs, 21 blocks and 62 aces in 126 games. Whitewater head coach Ben Thacker stated that Kehoe is probably the best all-around player that Whitewater has ever had, adding that she played throughout the season with an ankle injury. She has a full scholarship to Warner Southern College in Florida.

Right hitter - Monique Mead - Landmark Christian - Mead recorded 616 kills, 374 digs and 80 blocks this season. Mead was the Area 3AA/A Player of the Year, and a member of the All-Area Team and All-Tournament Team.  She is graduating in December and going to play at Georgia Tech. 

Middle hitter - Brittany Woods - Whitewater - Woods had 517 kills, 22 aces,123 digs, and 68.5 blocks in 130 games. Woods was a member of the All Region team in 2007 and 2008, and was a three year varsity starter and Co-Captain 2008. Woods also has a full scholarship to Warner Southern College, Fla.

Setter - Cheri Smith - Sandy Creek - In 141 games, Smith recorded 42 aces, 254 kills, 212 digs, 622 assists and 12.5 blocks.

All Citizen second team

Libero - Collete Richards - Landmark Christian - Richards had 546 digs in 106 games.

Setter - Betsy Kelsch - McIntosh - Kelsch had 839 assists, 201 digs, and 49 kills this season and was a member of the 2008 All Area Team.

Setter - Lauren Toomer - Landmark Christian - Toomer had 843 assists to go along with 154 digs and 60 kills.

Outside hitter - Jennifer Dunn - Sandy Creek - In 136 games, Dunn had 82 aces, 414 kills, 332 digs, 21 assists and 14.5 blocks.

Outside hitter - Alison Druskat - McIntosh - The team captain and member of the All Area Team, Druskat had 241 kills, 266 digs and 55 aces this season.

Outside hitter - Katie Davenport - Sandy Creek - Davenport had 312 kills, 219 digs, 71 aces and 22 blocks in 135 games.

Outside hitter - Helen Menchinger - Whitewater - As a sophomore, Menchinger recorded 340 kills and 321 digs. She has played with the varsity squad for two years.

Middle hitter - Chanelle Smith - Sandy Creek - In 140 games, Smith had 315 kills, 121 aces and 60.5 blocks.

Right hitter - Ashlyn Bodkin - Our Lady of Mercy - As a freshman, Bodkin had 267 digs and 90 assists. Bodkin was also named to the Area 3-AA/A All Tournament Team.

Honorable mention

Setter - Anna Wilson - Whitewater - A three year varsity starter, Wilson recorded 770 assists in 2008 in 98 games.

Setter - Mikaela Gray - Starr’s Mill - A freshman on the Starr’s Mill squad, Gray recorded 574 assists, 110 digs, 39 aces, 32 kills and 21 blocks.

Outside hitter - Angela Jubb - Starr’s Mill - A team captain and member of the All Area team, Jubb had 277 kills, 201 digs, 24 blocks and 50 aces this season.

Outside hitter - Mallory McCurry - Landmark Christian - McCurry recorded 160 kills and 324 digs in 107 games.

Outside hitter - Olivia Schmitz - Our Lady of Mercy - Schmitz, a freshman, made the All Area team in Area 3 AA/A and recorded 289 kills, 206 digs, 59 aces and 19 blocks.

Outside hitter - Jennifer Crotty - Starr’s Mill - The team captain, Crotty, had 181 kills, 167 digs, 63 aces and 21 blocks.

Outside hitter - Kalie Ludvigson - Our Lady of Mercy - Ludvigson had 238 kills, 48 aces and 74 digs.

Middle hitter - Danielle Smith - Sandy Creek - Despite missing six weeks with a broken thumb, Smith had 214 kills, 50 aces and 50.5 blocks.

Middle hitter - Samantha Morris - Our Lady of Mercy - Morris had 211 digs, 199 kills, 74 aces and 97 blocks.

* The coaches in the county nominated players and provided statistics for them. The sports editor merely put them in an order that he thinks (hopes) makes some sort of sense.
