McIntosh boys, Whitewater girls win county cross country championships
Hundreds of local high school runners gathered at Sandy Creek on Wednesday afternoon to run in the annual Fayette County cross country championships. While McIntosh won the boys race handily, the fight for the top spot was possibly as close as it has ever been.
McIntosh’s boys won the Fayette County cross country championships on Wednesday. The Chiefs had their top five runners all finish within the top eight. Starr’s Mill took second place and was followed by Sandy Creek, Our Lady of Mercy, Whitewater and Fayette County. Our Lady of Mercy’s Jonathan Bridier won the race by a hair over McIntosh’s Brad Hort (16:35.16 to 16:35.42).
On the girls side, Whitewater won the county title with their top five runners all finishing in the top 10. McIntosh took second place and was followed by Our Lady of Mercy, Starr’s Mill, Sandy Creek and Fayette County. McIntosh’s Rachel Tierney placed first overall with a time of 20:38.88
More results (the top five runners from each school) will be available later and will run in Wednesday’s edition of The Citizen. Full results can be found at www.gatfxc.com
