Landmark falls to Aquinas on the road
The Landmark War Eagles varsity football team opened up their 2010 season by traveling to Augusta to take on the Aquinas Fighting Irish.
The game saw the War Eagles go up 17-7 midway through the third quarter before the resilient bunch from Aquinas came back to win 35-17.
Offensively the War Eagles were lead by senior quarterback Carson Barnett who threw for over 300 yards in the season opener, while sophomore receiver Josh Nobles caught eight passes for over 150 receiving yards and a TD. Junior running back Jake McCurry showed toughness and versatility accounting for over 100 total yards on the ground and receiving. Defensively the young War Eagles held their oppenents to very few yards and a single score in the first half. Senior linebacker Cassius Price led the way with many defensive stops and highlights.
Landmark (0-1) plays their first home game this Friday night against Athens Christian School (1-0) at Bill Thorn Stadium at 7:30 pm. The Eagles defeated Oglethorpe County 28-19 last Friday.
