Bobcats battle back, beat Temple
Our Lady of Mercy improved to 2-0 with a 32-26 comeback win over Temple.
The Bobcats found themselves down 20-3 in the first quarter and fought back to take a 24-20 lead at the half. Their momentum was slowed by a one hour lightning delay, but Our Lady of Mercy fought past some sluggishness and scored in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Rashard Fant, who is now averaging 161 yards rushing per game, had 10 rushes for 142 yards and two touchdowns, while Adam Rose rushed for one more. Lance McGuffie was a perfect 6 for 6 for 72 yards passing.
Cam Singletary had five tackles and an interception for the Bobcats, while Courage Jacobs added five solo tackles, an assist and a sack. Jordan Sartor also had an interception in the win and Pierre Vincent added five tackles and an assist.
“It was an exciting game, a little too exciting,” joked head coach Mike Earwood, who added that it was a good to see his team fight back. “You’re not always sure how kids will react to certain situations.” Earwood thinks his team is right on schedule and looking forward to an off week after Friday’s game at Glascock County (0-1). “I have realistic expectations, but I’m just not wired to expect to only win two to four games a year.”
Earwood added that Kyle Sharp punted and kicked well in the win against Temple.
