Fayette's comeback bid thwarted by Woodland

By Michael Boylan - Posted on 01 September 2010

Fayette County made some early miscues and found themselves down 22-0 to Woodland, Henry in the first quarter. They were far from done though.

The Tigers turned things around, scored 18 unanswered points and were driving to take the lead as the half ended. Unfortunately some late second half turnovers led to some Woodland touchdowns and a 34-18 loss. Justin Murray threw for three touchdowns but also had four interceptions on the night. Eric Lauderdale led the receivers with seven catches for 79 yards and a touchdown, while Maurice Williams and Tago Smith each had touchdown catches as well.

“Justin had a hard time getting going, but we know he will be much better,” said Fayette head coach Tommy Webb. “We’ll chalk our mistakes up to a first game.”

Webb thought his defense played well for the most part but was on the field too long. Standouts on defense were Torrey Davis (8 tackles, 1 assist), Brian Stills (6 tackles, 6 assists), Trevus Edwards (5 tackles, 3 assists) and Derrick Cannon (2 tackles, 11 assists).

Fayette County (0-1) plays at Union Grove (0-1) on Friday. The Wolverines lost to Northside, Warner Robins 38-0 in a game shortened by inclement weather.
