McIntosh softball off to good start
McIntosh’s varsity softball team is off to a great start. The Lady Chiefs are 5-3 and took second place at last weekend’s Up the Creek tournament.
McIntosh opened the 2010 season with a 3-1 loss to Northgate and a 4-3 loss to Spaulding County before going 4-1 in the tournament with four shutout wins. The wins came against Sandy Creek, Strong Rock Christian, Salem and Locust Grove. Their lone loss in the tournament was 8-2 to Walnut Grove. On Tuesday, the Lady Chiefs beat Upson Lee 9-1.
Linsey Hearn drove in the run against Northgate, while Laurel Clarke swatted two hits. Driving in runs against Spaulding were Wesleiegh Bartels, Melissa Markhardt and Emily Pauley. Kicking off the tournament, Hannah Newton earned the win against Sandy Creek and drove in two runs, while Rachel Frederic, Amy McGibbon and Markhardt each drove in a run. Hearn earned the win against Strong Rock, while Katie Sowers and Pauley each drove in a run.
Frederic picked up the win against Salem, while Hearn had two hits and an RBI. Clarke and Sowers each had two hits in the loss to Walnut Grove. In the romp against Locust Grove, Sowers had three hits and two RBIs, Christine Mobley had three RBIs and Clarke drove in two with a single. In Tuesday’s win, Newton drove in two, while Clarek, Frederic, McGibbon and Sowers each drove in one. Newton earned the win and had eight strikeouts.
The Lady Chiefs will host Whitewater at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
