Landmark looks to get back on track in 2010

By Michael Boylan - Posted on 25 August 2010

Landmark Christian School went 6-5 last year and lost in the opening round of the state playoffs to Commerce, 29-19. They produced a region record of 6-2, losing to Holy Innocents and Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, and started the season with non-region losses to Brookstone and Warren County. The War Eagles, undoubtedly, would like things to go differently this year.

Leading the way for Landmark will be senior quarterback Carson Barnett and he has some good weapons at wide receiver in seniors Brandon Sorenson and Zach Barnett, junior Cantrell Frazier and sophomore Josh Nobles. Juniors Jake McCurry and James Roberson are listed at running back, as is freshman Jeremiah Kirkland. They will be running behind a line that features senior Chad Beckham and junior Robert Blackadar among others.

On defense, seniors Jordan Brown and Chris Johnson play in the defensive front with juniors Jeff Hannah and Brandon Hernandez among several others. The War Eagles will also have some experience at defensive back with senior Gabriel Cobb and juniors Reed Sewell, Bradley Belveal and Donald Payne. Senior Cassius Price and juniors Anderson Cole, Chase McFarlin and CJ McWilliams are just two of the linebackers hoping to continue the tradition of strong Landmark linebackers.

Kicking for the team will be senior Ryan Thames, a member of several Class A preseason all state teams.

Landmark should see themselves get back in contention for another region title and a trip to the state playoffs this year. They need only look back at the bitter taste of some of last year’s losses to serve as motivation to stay focused.
