Fayette boys and girls, Newnan boys play for region titles tonight

Douglas County’s Lady Tigers almost shocked the world on Friday in the region 5-AAAA tournament but undefeated Fayette County emerged victorious with a half court shot at the buzzer to win 37-34. Anma Onyeuku led the team with 18 points, while Tessah Holt, who hit the final shot, finished with 11.

Three more Fayette teams qualify for state basketball tournament

The boys basketball teams at Fayette County, Sandy Creek and McIntosh are assured of a spot in the Class AAAA state playoffs after getting wins on Thursday night in the region 5-AAAA tournament at Lithia Springs High School.

Chiefs, Cougars and Bobcats advance in region tourneys

McIntosh’s boys advanced to the second round of the Region 5-AAAA tournament at Lithia Springs with a 67-47 win over Northgate on Tuesday. Jeremy Lampkin led the Chiefs with 21 points, while Michael Chisholm added 18 and Josh Ball contributed 11. Northgate was led by 22 points from Brandon Hopkins and 12 points from Marquez Mobley.

The Chiefs will now face Banneker at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The winner will qualify for the state tournament and will take on the winner of the Fayette County/Mays or Whitewater game.

Mays played Whitewater Tuesday afternoon but a score has yet to be reported.

Lady Panthers and Chiefs do well at state swim meet

Starr’s Mill’s girls placed third in the Class A-AAAA state swimming and diving meet. McIntosh placed 20th and Landmark Christian placed 35th.

Wrestlers move on from state sectionals

The wrestling teams from Fayette County sent a number of wrestlers to the Class AAAA West Sectionals last weekend and many of them performed well.

McIntosh Boys Swim Team finishes 5th in State and Girls finish 20th

A successful swim season comes to a close as the McIntosh boys State swim team comprised of: (Alex Harmon, Adam Otaki, Jim Roddenbery, Jack Beall, Marcus Burk, Andy Lucak, Chase Simmons, Lukas Love, David Liow, Ethan Williams, Theo Lefebvre, Shane Luckey, Evan Novelly) placed 5th in the state. While the girls State swim team comprised of : (Ari Berg, Ariane Leblond, Anna Beard, Sarah Trapaga, Allison Gair, Erika Barrett, Kaitlin Rassett, Cailin O'Brien, Cara Ludwick, Sarah Manley, Taylor Day, Sadie Mason) placed 20th.

Mixed results for local teams in region basketball tournaments

Region basketball tournaments are in full swing during this winter break week and several local teams are now on a much longer break.

Several teams start soccer season with wins

In what looks to be the earliest start to high school soccer season that this reporter can remember, the local teams have taken the field and are ready to prove their mettle.

Whitewater wins area wrestling championships

McIntosh hosted the area 5-AAAA wrestling tournament over the weekend and a number of local wrestlers qualified for the state sectionals this weekend. The top two teams were Whitewater, which won the meet and has recently won the state duals and a tournament at their school, and Fayette County.

Fayette basketball teams sweep McIntosh

Fayette County hosted their longtime rivals, McIntosh, on Friday night and got wins from both the boys and girls squads.
