McIntosh’s boys and girls varsity soccer teams defeated East Coweta on Friday.

Whitewater’s boys ran at the Ridge Invitational on Saturday at Peachtree Ridge High School and placed sixth.

Sandy Creek took on Starr’s Mill on Monday afternoon and won 6-0. It was the second straight game that the Panthers had been held to no runs.

This area is known for its soccer and a number of teams are off to a solid start.

Sandy Creek’s varsity baseball team has started the season with two straight wins.

Landmark Christian School senior Josh Gebhardt (6’3, 225 lbs) has signed a letter of commitment to play at Georgia Southern University. Gebhardt made All-State 1st Team as a Defensive-End, was awarded 2010 Region 5-A Defensive Player of the Year, and was a 4 year starter at Landmark Christian School. Gebhardt is the son of Aron and Marianne Gebhardt.

This past weekend gave local basketball fans a chance to revisit what is one of the great rivalries in Fayette County high school athletics.

Today, Wednesday, Feb. 3, is National Signing Day and area schools will be buzzing with activity as numerous scholar atheltes will sign letters of intent to attend certain colleges and universities and represent them on the athletic fields as well as in the classrooms.

There wasn’t much in between in basketball games played over the weekend. If a team won, it was a solid win and if it was a loss, it got kind of ugly.

Whitewater hosted the Southside Brawl last Friday and Saturday and placed sixth, the highest finish of any of the local teams participating. Following the Wildcats were McIntosh is seventh, Starr’s Mill in 12th and Landmark in 15th.
