Basketball teams trying to keep hot streaks going

DSC_0010.JPGThe region basketball tournaments are not that far away and every sub-region and region win can help a team’s seeding. For some teams, like Fayette County's Lady Tiger, each game could have a big impact on defending their AAAA state title.

Landmark in Class A football final this Saturday

In their last three seasons, the Landmark Christian War Eagles finished with six wins. Prior to those years, Landmark was a perennial region champion and contender in the state playoffs but they never got further than the quarterfinals. That changed when they beat Aquinas and advanced to last week’s Class A semifinals against Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy. Not only has the Landmark team doubled their win output from last year, but the War Eagles are now 48 minutes from the school’s first state title in football.

Gainesville built a 14 point lead early into the second half, but the Patriots bounced back with a 15 yard touchdown run from CJ Washington and a 2 yard touchdown run from Mike Hilton.

Last week of regular season has wins for some, heartbreakers for others

Making history seems like old hat for the two-time state champion Sandy Creek Patriots, but they made some more history Friday night with their fourth straight region title, something that had never been done in the county before. The Patriots hosted Stockbridge and won 22-14.
