Landmark falls to Aquinas on the road
The Landmark War Eagles varsity football team opened up their 2010 season by traveling to Augusta to take on the Aquinas Fighting Irish.
Bobcats battle back, beat Temple
Our Lady of Mercy improved to 2-0 with a 32-26 comeback win over Temple.
Fayette's comeback bid thwarted by Woodland
Fayette County made some early miscues and found themselves down 22-0 to Woodland, Henry in the first quarter. They were far from done though.
McIntosh comes up short in loss to Pike County
McIntosh lost to Pike County 10-6 on the road in their season opener. Jake Turner stepped in for an injured Cam Porter at quarterback and was 9 of 13 for 153 yards passing with a touchdown pass to Robert Trotter (3 catches for 42 yards).
Panthers blow out Coosa in season opener
Starr’s Mill scored 34 points before the half in their win over Coosa last Friday and added seven more in the third quarter to cruise to a 41-0 victory.
Will Our Lady of Mercy be 3-0 going into Landmark game?
Patriots hold off Wildcats, 20-14 in season opener
It was expected that Sandy Creek, the reigning Class AAAA state champions, would come out and make a statement against one of their county rivals in the season opener. And they did.
Tigers tougher after trying summer
Every high school football team has had to deal with a soaring heat index that has either limited practice time or kept the players operating outside of their pads. Fayette County’s football program has dealt with a little more. One of the many summer thunderstorms did some damage to the field, track and locker rooms and another storm limited a scrimmage with Jonesboro to three minutes before a makeup several days later.
Chiefs looking forward to challenges
McIntosh had their best season since 2004 last year, recording a 4-6 record under coach Glenn Griffin and being one second away from a 5-5 record (The Chiefs lost 33-31 to Fayette County on the final play of the game). It was a big season for a team that has struggled in recent years, but there may be some more growing pains as the Chiefs must now find a way to deal with losing 26 seniors from last year’s squad, many of them starters.
Panthers enjoy consistency with new head coach
Mike Earwood is gone, but not forgotten. He’s not even that far away, coaching over at Our Lady of Mercy (close enough for his friends from Starr’s Mill to come cheer him on as he got his first win last Saturday), but for the first time since Starr’s Mill fielded a football team, the Panthers have a new head coach.
