Baseball surprise
Baseball sure has a way of surprising you.
John Smoltz started the season as a Red Sock but flamed out. Now he's a Cardinal and is pitchin' lights-out.
And I, as a Cardinals and Braves fan, can't be more pleased. Neither can Smoltzie. He jumped from 1 playoff team to another and seems to have righted his ship.
While I am disappointed my adopted Braves appear to be destined for playoff-watching... it's cool to know Smoltzie is still making it happen for the team I grew up with.
Worst. Day. Ever.
Fallout from the John Smoltz disaster took a major toll on my household.
Breaking the news to my 7-year-old son, who has also been to 30-40 Braves games, was a cringe-worthy moment. His favorite pitcher, the only one he can name, is Smoltz.
My initial reaction to the news was expletive-laced. Thank goodness we haven't yet implemented that newsroom swear jar.
How COULD they mess this up sooooo badly? I mean really, the dude came back injury after injury and still could BRING THE HEAT and mow down opposing hitters.
Big bat off the market
So you've probably heard. Mark Texieira has landed with the Yankees for an obscene amount of money.
You also probably heard the yelps of joy in Peachtree City around 4:30 p.m. today when my buddy Kevin found out the news. Kevin bleeds pinstripes and this development no doubt has him scheming how he can check out the new Yanks in person, what with Sabathia and Burnett anchoring the rotation.
Braves should take pass on Burnett
I read today where the Atlanta Braves may take a pass on John Smoltz should they sign A.J. Burnett.
Say it ain't so!!!
Granted he's not the most reliable health-wise. But when he's healthy there's no one better. And when he trots in from the 'pen to shut em down in the ninth, The Ted goes nuts in a way that you just never see any more.
Call me sentimental, but the idea of Smoltzie in any other uniform makes me shudder.
OK I'll broach the subject
UGA loses (or Tech wins?). Needless to say the shouldawonitall Dawgs have to be licking their wounds. (Props to my boy Paul Johnson, who I wish we could've kept at Ga. Southern a bit longer).
The Falcons are 8-4 with Captain Hope at quarterback and seem to be, dare we say it, inspiring fans to dream of greatness. I hope Bobby Petrino is still in football purgatory so he can enjoy it.
Is the Georgia sports world turned on its ear or is this how things should be? What do you say FayetteNation?
