Former Whitewater third baseman Miles Head and and Fayette County pitcher David Buchanan played in the 2011 South Atlantic League all star game on Tuesday.

The 11u Peachtree City Bats won the USSSA West Georgia Championship Tournament held in Fayetteville, June 10-12. The Bats were 6-1 over the weekend.

There is another local player joining Miles Head in the 2011 South Atlantic League All Star game; Fayette County High School graduate David Buchanan.

What a difference a year makes.

Although recent McIntosh graduate Dwight Smith Jr. will likely start playing minor league ball in the south, if he decides to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays, the goal will be to one day start in the Great White North.

District 4 Big League has planned an All Star Reunion for Saturday, June 18, with a barbecue at the Chimney’s subdivision. They are celebrating 10 years of a successful Big League program in Fayette, Coweta, Spalding and Clayton Counties.

After Whitewater swept Effingham County on Monday night, Wildcats head coach Bobby Gatlin said he didn’t have a preference on who his opponent in the Class AAAA final would be. Loganville and Marist had split their games on Monday night, so it was still up in the air.
