The Whitewater Wildcats certainly had one of the longer road trips in the AAAA baseball playoffs when they traveled to Evans, Ga. to take on the Greenbrier Wolf Pack on Monday.
The Whitewater Wildcats took on Alexander in the second round of the AAAA state baseball playoffs last week in a series delayed by inclement weather.

As Graduation Day nears, one can not help but reflect on the past 13 years of school. The school day, eight hours long or more, can be a strenuous struggle, but for some the full schedule may also include hours of practice and playing for the school’s athletic teams.
Atlanta Braves closer and 2011 NL All Star and Rookie of the Year Craig Kimbrel will be signing items at Sports Legends, 310 N. Glynn St., Suite A in Fayetteville from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 26. The autograph fee is $50 per item and the fee for an inscription is $15.

Barring bad weather, the state baseball playoffs start tomorrow for five local teams.
Region 3-AAAA is so big (how big is it?) that it is divided into two sub-regions. To make the AAAA state playoffs, you have to be one of the top four teams in your sub-region and then win a playoff game against one of the top four teams from the other side. Our side (3B-AAAA) went three of four in the region playoffs and will send Harris County, Whitewater and Northgate to the AAAA playoffs next week.
Yesterday, after the paper went to press, the final sub-region games of 3A-AAAA were played. One game was for bragging rights in a rivalry (Whitewater and Starr’s Mill) and the other was for the final spot in the region playoffs (McIntosh at Northgate).
The McIntosh Chiefs hosted Starr’s Mill Wednesday afternoon and shut out the Panthers 2-0. Starr’s Mill outhit the Chiefs 10-3 but couldn’t generate a run.
The Our Lady of Mercy Bobcats (8-9) jumped out to an early 6-1 lead on Forest Park Wednesday afternoon and never trailed from that point on, winning a non-region contest 16-12 over the Panthers.
