Fayetteville's Ashley Holcombe makes USA women's softball team

Holcombe, R, is pictured with Alabama and USA women's national team teammate Brittany Rogers and Alabama coach Patrick Murphy. Murphy will also serve as an assistant coach for the USA Softball Pan American qualifier team.

Local tennis team wins division title

TennisThe USTA Southern Crescent Jr. Team Tennis are 12U Division Champions for Spring 2009.

 Local rock climbers qualify for national championship

 
The Division 4 Youth Climbing Championships (an invitation only event) were held June 13th and 14th in Melbourne, FL.  With only five Divisions covering the entire USA, Division 4 was comprised of the best youth climbing had to offer from FL, GA, AL, TN, MS, SC, NC, VA and WVA.  These nine states sent a total of 108 of their best climbers to this event.  Thirty-eight of those climbers hail from Georgia.  Eleven live and train right here in Fayette County at Reality Climbing in Tyrone.

GolfBreast cancer made all the headlines recently with the disclosure that Amy Mickelson, wife of pro golfer Phil Mickelson, was ill with the disease. Meanwhile, some local ladies continued their ongoing fight against the illness.

Muckdogs are sub-state champs

BaseballThe Fayette Muckdogs were the champions of the USSSA 10U Sub-State Tournament held in Peachtree City. They played and won four consecutive games on June 14 to win this title.
